Timeline basics
Drag, drop, reorder, and resize clips on the timeline.
The timeline at the bottom of the editor is what drives your final video. Whatever order clips sit in here is the order they appear in the export. This guide covers the day-to-day operations: getting clips onto the timeline, rearranging them, and editing per-clip behavior.
Getting clips onto the timeline
- Click the action icons on each library thumbnail. Hover any
image in the library and three icons appear:
- The image icon adds it as an image overlay (sits on top of the video)
- The film icon adds it as a video clip on the main track
- The trash icon removes the image from the project
Reordering, splitting, and resizing
Once a clip is on the timeline you can:
- Reorder: drag a clip left or right to change its position. The order on the timeline is the order in your final video.
- Resize: drag a clip's edge to extend or shorten how long it's on screen. Useful when you want a hero shot to linger or a transitional shot to be brief.
- Edit: double-click a clip (or click the small image-action badge in the bottom-left corner of the clip) to open the AI Edit panel for that photo. From there you can apply staging, replace the image, or run any other AI edit.
Each clip has two badges in its bottom-left corner: a small image badge and a film badge. The image badge opens the AI Edit panel for the clip's photo; the film badge opens the clip-action modal for switching between generated video versions.
Default clip duration
When images are added via the upload modal, each clip's default duration is set by the Clip duration picker at the top of the upload form (3 or 5 seconds). You can change a clip's duration later by dragging its edge on the timeline.
Tracks
The timeline has multiple tracks stacked vertically:
- Video track (main): the order of clips here is the order of the final video.
- Image track: image overlays that appear on top of the video. Useful for static logos or address cards.
- Audio track: music and audio (see Choosing the right track).
- Text track: text overlays added from the Templates panel or manually (see Text, shapes, and templates).
Each track is independent. Adding a clip to the video track doesn't disturb your audio or overlays.
Common questions
Can I undo? Yes. Cmd+Z / Ctrl+Z works on most timeline
operations.
What happens to the timeline thumbnail when I AI-edit a clip? It updates to reflect the active version of the photo once the edit completes. If your edit produces multiple versions (e.g., several twilight attempts), the badge counter on the clip tracks them.
How do I delete a clip from the timeline? Select it and press Delete, or click the trash icon that appears on hover. Deleting from the timeline doesn't remove the photo from your project, only from the video.
