Destaging: removing clutter and furniture
Clean a room photo for the marketing video without re-shooting.
Destaging removes furniture, decor, and clutter from a room photo, giving you a clean architectural shot. Useful when:
- A room is full of the seller's belongings and you want to show the space, not the contents
- You want to follow a destaged photo with a re-staged version (in a different style) for a before-and-after effect
- The current furniture clashes with the listing's marketing aesthetic
How to destage a photo
From the editor, double-click a clip (or click its image-action badge) to open the AI Edit panel. In the One-click Staging section, switch the radio from Style to Destaging.
Click Edit Image (1 credit) to run it. The destaged version appears in 5–10 seconds and is saved as a new version under the photo's history.
When destaging works well
The model is best at:
- Living rooms, bedrooms, dining rooms, and kitchens with clearly defined floor / wall / ceiling planes
- Photos where the furniture isn't blocking architectural features (fireplaces, built-ins, windows)
- Daylight interior shots. The cleaner the lighting, the cleaner the result.
When to skip it
- The room is empty already (no destaging needed)
- The "clutter" is structural (beams, pipes, vents). Those aren't removable.
- The listing is selling the lifestyle (the furniture is the pitch)
Common follow-ups
A common workflow after destaging:
- Destage to a clean room (1 credit)
- Re-stage the destaged version in your preferred style: Modern Farmhouse, Midcentury Modern, Transitional, etc. (1 credit)
The original photo is preserved at every step. You can always switch back to the original or any intermediate version from the photo's version history.
Destaging often produces a better final video than trying to photograph an empty room before listing. Sellers don't always have the option to remove furniture before photo day, and re-shooting later costs time. A 1-credit destage usually saves a return trip.
Cost
Destaging costs 1 credit per run. Re-running on the same photo (to try a different result) costs another credit each time. See How credits work for the full pricing breakdown.
Common questions
Will it remove built-in furniture too? No. Built-ins (fireplaces, shelves, kitchen islands) are part of the architecture and stay. Only movable furniture and decor get removed.
The destaged photo doesn't look right. Try re-running it. The AI output varies between attempts; many users get the result they want on the second or third try. Each run is 1 credit.
Can I destage just part of a photo? Not directly via the one-click destage. For targeted removals, use the Advanced Staging section's Remove mode and specify what to remove (e.g., "the couch", "the rug"). For exterior re-lighting and seasonal effects, see Exterior effects.
